Our Work
WE ADVOCATE FOR RRR WOMEN THROUGH CONSULTATION AND RESEARCH TO INFORM POLICY AND KEY DECISION MAKERS
The Rural Regional and Remote Women’s Network of Western Australia has been advocating for RRR women since 1996 and communicating the issues impacting them to policymakers and key decision makers.
This mission has strengthened the voice of RRR WA women who are challenged and disadvantaged by their geography and small populations. The RRR Network ensures that their experience continues to be considered and included in the design and implementation of policies that will impact them and their communities.
Through consultation under both the Western Australian Government’s ‘Stronger Together’ initiative, and through independent studies, we have identified 8 key issues impacting WA RRR women.
Consultation and Research
Our programs and core messages are motivated by these issues:
- Lack of career building jobs for women and specifically professional leadership positions;
- Limited to no access to child-care facilities because of geographic isolation;
- Burden of volunteering and caring responsibilities where women primarily fulfil these roles;
- Lack of essential women’s health services in the regions;
- Domestic violence and surrounding complications of reporting in small communities due to isolation;
- Sexual harassment & fixed expectations to accept such behaviours with little to no effective reporting channels;
- Regional to metropolitan transition concerns for families when youth are pursuing education or employment;
- Unreliable internet access restricting education, networking and business opportunities.
