Introducing Ellen Smith to the RRR Network Board. Ellen is currently living in the Kimberley region of Western Australia and has grown up in regional WA. Her lived experience has made Ellen acutely aware of the challenges which women face in rural, regional and remote Australia.
Coming from a scientific background, Ellen learnt early in her career the importance of being able to translate research and analysis into practical on-ground solutions. This led Ellen into public policy, a space in which she felt she could deliver meaningful change to regional West Australians based on sound scientific reasoning.
Ellen is a recent graduate of the Australian Rural Leadership Program and has sat on a number of local community group committees in Broome. Having previously worked in the public sector for seven years, Ellen specialised in the fields of sustainable fisheries management and agricultural development. Ellen is also developing a greater understanding of our First Nations people through her new role as Chief Business Development Officer at Nyamba Buru Yawuru, an Aboriginal corporation representing the Yawuru Native Title holders of Rubibi (Broome).
